Introduction

The Psalm is about a king and his bride. Verses 6 and 7 are quoted in Hebrews 1 v 8 and 9 and applied to Jesus.

1.  Why has God blessed this king?

v 2 You are the most excellent of the sons of men.
Grace has anointed your lips,
therefore God has blessed you forever.

2. Why has God anointed this king with the oil of gladness?

v 7 You have loved righteousness, and hated wickedness.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows.

3. What will the psalmist do for the name of this king and what will be the result?

v 17 I will make your name to be remembered in all generations.
Therefore the peoples shall give you thanks forever and ever.
