A selection of verses showing how we should regard authorities.
The book of proverbs tells us that we should fear the LORD and our rulers and not associate with those who oppose them:
21 My son, fear the LORD and the king.
Don’t join those who are rebellious;
Paul tells the believers in Rome to pay their dues and respect authority :
7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honour, then honour.
He tells Titus to be subject to rulers and authorities:
1 Remind them to be in subjection to rulers and to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work,
The apostle Peter says that we should honour all people including our rulers :
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
