A selection of verses showing how we can become children of God.
John tells us how we become children of God. Talking about Jesus he says:
12 But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name: 13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Paul echoes the same sentiments to the Galatian believers:
26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.
Paul tells the Corinthian believers that they must have a different attitude from non-believers to become God's children:
2 Corinthians 6 verses 16 - 18
16 What agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk in them. I will be their God and they will be my people.” 17 Therefore
“ ‘Come out from amongst them,
and be separate,’ says the Lord.
‘Touch no unclean thing.
I will receive you.
18 I will be to you a Father.
You will be to me sons and daughters,’
says the Lord Almighty.”
He tells the Philippian believers that children of God must be examples to those around them:
15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, amongst whom you are seen as lights in the world,
