God makes several promises to Isaac, Abraham's son.
God tells Abraham that he will make an everlasting covenant with his son Isaac:
19 God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.
God tells Isaac not to go into Egypt, but to stay in the land that he has promised. God repeats his promise made to Abraham about his offspring bringing blessings on all nations:
2 The LORD appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about. 3 Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. 4 I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,
When they are in slavery in Egypt, God reminds the early Israelites that he has promised the land to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:
6 Therefore tell the children of Israel, ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgements. 7 I will take you to myself for a people. I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 8 I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am the LORD.’ ”
Just before he dies, God reminds Moses of the promise he has made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:
1 Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is opposite Jericho. The LORD showed him all the land of Gilead to Dan, 2 and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, to the Western Sea, 3 and the south, and the Plain of the valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, to Zoar. 4 The LORD said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”
In the time of the kings of Israel we are reminded that God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that their nation would not be destroyed:
22 Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. 23 But the LORD was gracious to them, and had compassion on them, and had respect for them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, and he didn’t cast them from his presence as yet.
24 Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his place.
