A selection of verses about the kind of people God chooses.
God looks at the kind of person we are, not our outward appearance. When He chose King David He rejected his elder brother. The record tells us:
7 But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
The apostle Paul tells us the God chooses those who would be regarded as imsignificant:
1 Corinthians 1 verses 26 - 28
26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble; 27 but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world that he might put to shame the things that are strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist,
Jesus tells us that God is actively looking for faithful men and women to worship him:
23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshippers.
The apostle James tells us that God chooses people who have faith in Him and love Him
5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
This choice which the believers make to do what God wants exalts them to a new position in God’s eyes- they are now part of a chosen race:
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
