The Lord clearly tells Moses what the purpose of the tabernacle is:
8 Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell amongst them.
The tabernacle was to be in the middle of the Israelite camp.
The tent of meeting was as the centre of the tabernacle. It had two parts: the Holy place and the Most Holy place.
Surrounding the Tent of meeting was the court. The main items in the court were the Brazen Altar and the Laver.
