The ten commandments are the basic laws of the Jews which tell them how they should live. Many countries base their laws on these commandments. They are listed in Exodus 20.
With the exception of the Sabbath law, they are all repeated by Jesus Christ and the apostles. Examples are:
You shall have no other gods before me:
6 yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
You shall not make for yourself any idol:
4 Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God:
33 “Again you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,’ 34 but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
Honour your father and mother:
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord.
You shall not commit adultery, murder, steal or covet:
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
You shall not lie:
9 Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings,
