Coping with stress

Believing and trusting in God and what He has promised helps deal with the stresses that life brings. It helps to know that God has promised something much better than our current stressful lives.

A selection of Bible verses giving believers help in coping with stress.

Jesus told us to be aiming for the future kingdom that God has promised He will establish. He is aware of our needs and we should try not to worry about the future:

Matthew 6 verses 33 - 34

33 But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

The apostle Paul said that the stress and problems of the present time are nothing compared to what God has promised:

Romans 8 verse 18

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed towards us.

2 Corinthians 4 verses 17 - 18

17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory, 18 while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The Psalmist encourages us to put our problems in God's hands:

Psalms 55 verse 22

22 Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you.
He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

The prophet Isaiah encouraged the Israelites to trust in God

Isaiah 26 verses 3 - 4

3 You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace,
because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the LORD forever;
for in the LORD, the LORD, is an everlasting Rock.
