A selection of verses showing that we should recognise evidence of God's hand when we see it.
The land of Egypt was being devastated by plagues from God. Pharaoh refused to acknowledge Israel's God was behind the plagues because he wanted to keep the people as slaves:
30 Moses went out from Pharaoh, and prayed to the LORD. 31 The LORD did according to the word of Moses, and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. There remained not one. 32 Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he didn’t let the people go.
Many people recognised the evidence of the miracles that Jesus did:
2 A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick.
31 But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”
In the early days of the first-century church, Peter reminded his hearers to recognise that the miracles Jesus did were evidence that he was from God:
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words! Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him amongst you, even as you yourselves know,
The prophet Isaiah tells us that the people of Israel are an evidence of the God of the Bible. He says of the people of Israel:
10 “You are my witnesses,” says the LORD,
“With my servant whom I have chosen;
that you may know and believe me,
and understand that I am he.
Before me there was no God formed,
neither will there be after me.
11 I myself am the LORD.
Besides me, there is no saviour.
12 I have declared, I have saved, and I have shown,
and there was no strange god amongst you.
Therefore you are my witnesses”,
says the LORD, “and I am God.
