Our hearts need to be cleaned to give us a right spirit (or motivation):
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a right spirit within me.
Our minds need to be transformed from being conformed to this world:
2 Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
We need to change from our old corrupt way of life to one showing God’s holiness and truth:
22 that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
We should change our ways and resist being angry, malicious and dishonest:
8 but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth. 9 Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, 10 and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator,
