Bible use of the word light

A selection of verses showing that light is a symbol of God's ways and thoughts. This is as opposed to our ways and thoughts which are seen as darkness.

John 3 verses 19 - 20

19  This is the judgement, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. 20  For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed. 

John 8 verse 12

12 Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
 

1 Thessalonians 5 verse 5

5 You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,

2 Peter 1 verse 19

19 We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts:

1 John 2 verses 9 - 10

9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now. 10 He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.
